Friuli Venezia Giulia is a region that comprises many different landscapes. In fact this region is located in the Northeastern end of Italy, on the border with Slovenia and Austria and it overlooks the Adriatic Sea. The Karst plateau is characterized by a stunning landscape formed by bare rock carved by wind and water. Soil erosion has shaped an infinite number of caves and "springs" from which the phenomenon of "karst" derives its name. Moving further North, the spectacular high mountain views of the Eastern Dolomites await you. The latter, with their lakes, valleys and protected areas have been recognised by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites, Carnia and the Julian Alps. From the border with Veneto to Monfalcone there is a gradual change of the coastline: from the sandy beaches typical of tourist destinations such as Lignano to the rocky ones of Trieste. The great variety of landscapes is combined with a rich and various cultural heritage. This land has a complex history and different populations have settled in its territories. For this reason Friuli Venezia Giulia is the "land of contrasts": it is a small universe in which different traditions intertwine. Ippolito Nievo, an illustrious 19th century writer, used to describe Friuli Venezia Giulia with these verses: " ...Friuli is a small compendium of the Universe: mountains, plains and lagoon in sixty miles from sunset to noon "

Do sports fans go to heaven? Yes, but only if they come to Friuli Venezia Giulia. The merit is its geographical conformation: the only one of its kind in the world. Well, on the other hand... it is a masterpiece of Mother Nature.

Here, the schedule of sports events is very dense in all seasons. In winter, one of the most important stages of the World Cup Circuit hosts the best snowboarders. Meanwhile, Sella Nevea is a constant appointment for the fast skiing disciplines of the European Alpine Skiing Cup.

In the spring, road races are the main protagonists. The season starts with the Maratonina di Brugnera in March and then continues with the half marathon in Trieste at the beginning of May. This takes place in the month that often overlaps the stages of the Giro d'Italia. And, the hills of Friuli Venezia Giulia have written crucial pages in the history of the pink race for over 20 years. In a nutshell, kilometres of asphalt are milled here.

Summer? No need to get bored! The legendary Rally of Friuli and the Eastern Alps combines the competition of modern cars with the prestigious race of the European Historic Car Championship. At the end of September, the streets of Udine and Pordenone are livened up by the runners of two half marathons: Maratonina Udinese and Maratonina dei Borghi.
Last but not least, fall in Friuli Venezia Giulia is associated with Barcolana: a sailing regatta with the largest number of participants in the world. An extrordinary sport event that has become, over the years, the most important festival in Trieste and one of the main tourist attractions in the North-East of Italy. A marvellous festival that offers 10 days of events on land and at sea and that makes Trieste the European capital of sailing. And of course, the end of October it’s MYTHO MARATHON TIME, your change to Be part of the Myth!

Udine reflects its Venetian charm in its squares and ancient buildings. One of the most important squares is Piazza Libertà, which was even described as 'the most beautiful Venetian square on the mainland'. A few steps further on is Piazza Matteotti, surrounded by porticoes and colourful old buildings. Also known as “Piazza delle erbe” (Herb Square) because of its weekly market, it looks like a real open-air living room, where people like to meet. Another unique feature of Udine is the Castle Hill, which stands right in the town centre. From here you can enjoy a spectacular view that stretches as far north as the Alps and as far south as the Adriatic Sea.
Giambattista Tiepolo lived in Udine and he reached his artistic maturity here. Today his masterpieces are on display in the Tiepolo Galleries (in the Palazzo Patriarcale), in Duomo (the Cathedral) and in the Church of the Purità. Udine is a town full of traditions that can be enjoyed in the authentic taverns. One of the most popular rituals is celebrated here: the tasting of a glass of wine (tajut) in a convivial atmosphere.

Mythomarathon is an excellent opportunity to visit the International Exhibition “La forma dell’infinito” ("The shape of infinity") at Casa Cavazzini. The exhibition is organised by the San Floriano Committee and includes works by great names such as Picasso, Gauguin, Monet, Kandinsky and Dalì.
